Calling all adventurous Dublin students! Are you ready to trade the lecture halls for breathtaking coastal views and a challenging yet rewarding hike? Then look no further than the Dalkey & Killiney Loop, a scenic trail offering stunning landscapes, historical sights, and the perfect escape from the city bustle.

Fuel Up for the Adventure:

Start your day trip in charming Dalkey, easily accessible via the DART train. Before embarking on your journey, head to the Supervalu supermarket in Dalkey and grab a delicious deli sandwich or other snacks to keep you energized throughout the hike.

Posh Houses & Panoramic Views:

As you leave Dalkey, you'll be greeted by a scenic walk past the town's iconic posh houses. Soak in the unique architecture as you prepare for the climb up Dalkey Hill.

Conquering the Climb:

Brace yourself for the first ascent of the loop as you climb Dalkey Hill. The effort will be well worth it as you're rewarded with panoramic views of the city, overlooking the scenic quarry. This is a perfect opportunity to capture some breathtaking photos and take a moment to appreciate the vastness of Dublin.

Obelisk & Ocean Views:

Continue your journey towards Killiney Hill, enjoying the gradual climb and the changing scenery. As you reach the summit, you'll be greeted by the iconic obelisk. Take a well-deserved rest on the benches, soak in the stunning views of Shankill and Bray beaches backed by the majestic Wicklow Mountains, and let the fresh sea breeze rejuvenate you.

View from Dalkey of Killiney hill, Bray Beach and Dublin mountains.

Tea Rooms & Optional Beach Dip:

Onwards to the final stretch! The trail leads you towards the Killiney Tea Rooms, a perfect spot to grab a refreshing drink or a quick bite before completing the loop. Feeling adventurous? You can extend your experience by heading down to Killiney Beach and dipping your toes in the cool Irish Sea before departing.

Heading Back:

Once you've completed the loop, you can either hop on the DART train from Killiney Station for a direct journey back to the city centre or continue exploring the charming seaside town of Killiney before catching your train.

Tips for the Hike:

  • Wear comfortable shoes with good grip for the uneven terrain.

  • Pack water and snacks to stay hydrated and energized.

  • Bring sunscreen and a hat, especially on sunny days.

  • Dress in layers as the weather can change quickly.

  • Be mindful of the environment and leave no trace behind.
